The Dual Approach of PAT Testing: Visual Inspection and Electronic Testing

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) involves a comprehensive two-part process, covering both a visual inspection and an electronic test. Each part is crucial, as solely focusing on one may overlook critical information.

  • The visual inspection is conducted meticulously. At times, potential hazards are discernible only on the external surface, such as an exposed wire, highlighting the importance of this initial examination.
  • The electronic test involves the transmission of signals through the appliance’s cable, requiring specialized tools. Like the visual inspection, this step is essential, as certain issues may only manifest during this electronic examination.

Some of the hazards that testers diligently watch out for:

  • Exposure to possible conductors that may pose a risk of electrocution.
  • Current faults that could result in heat and fire.
  • Intermittent connections that may also lead to fire.
  • By addressing these potential dangers through a thorough PAT Testing process, we prioritize the safety and well-being of your workplace and its occupants.

PAT Testing results

After PAT Testing has been done, you will receive a list of all the appliances and equipment that were tested.

It will include the results for each item.

If there are items that failed or had issues, the list will also include reasons and possibilities.

The report will also say when each appliance is due for another test.
